Mesonephric remnant of the prostate gland, also mesonephric remnant, is rare benign finding in the prostate gland that can be confused with prostate carcinoma.

This article also deals with mesonephric remnant hyperplasia.

General

  • Very rare[1] ~ 0.6% incidence in a series of almost 700 TURP specimens.[2]
  • Can mimic prostate carcinoma.[3]

Microscopic

Features:[1]

  • Small glands in a lobular arrangement composed of cuboidal cells with:
    • Scant-to-moderate cytoplasm.[2]
    • Small/indistinct nucleoli.

Note:

  • May look like Gleason pattern 3 adenocarcinoma.
