The spermatic cord is occasionally seen by pathologists.
Overview
Contains:
- Vas deferens.
- Testicular artery.
- Testicular vein.
May contain:
- Müllerian-like remnants - ciliated columnar epithelium with basal nuclei and eosinophilic cytoplasm.[1]
Specific entities
Sperm granuloma
General
- Extravasated sperm.
- Common post-vasectomy.[2][3]
- May present as a mass.
- Can be seen in the context of vasitis nodosa.
Microscopic
Features:
- Sperm - small darking staining ovoid bodies.
- The tail is generally no seen in light microscopy.
- Histocytes +/-intracytoplasmic sperm.[4]
- +/-Multi-nucleated giant cells.

Spermatic cord lipoma
Main article: Lipoma
- Like lipomas elsewhere.
Spermatic cord varicocele
General
- Left > right.[5]
- Large varicoceles associated with infertility.[5]
- Thought to be due to increased testicular temperature.
Clinical:[5]
- Pain.
- Mass.
- Ipsilateral testicular atrophy.
Microscopic
Features:
- Dilated vein.
